Breath Underwater!

Scuba Program

Boys Scuba Summer Camp in Michigan

Dive into the amazing underwater world of Torch Lake and Lake Huron.  We have an all new trip for the summer of 2017.  The SCUBA program is going strong and we would love for your child to be part of it.  Mike Dunham is back as the SCUBA Instructor this season and he has worked through the off season to design a new and exciting trip for the SCUBA cabin.  Gone are the long drives to the bitter cold waters of Lake Superior and the constant bite of mosquitos.  This summer we are diving in the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.  We will begin with some simple shore dives and then we will ramp things up with three days of charterd boat dives.  These dives will be in the crystal clear waters of Lake Huron on some of the world's best preserved wrecks.  This is the only fresh water marine sanctuary in the world and is home to over 100 historically significant wrecks.  This fresh, cold water has preserved these wrecks in a manner not possible in salt water.  Some of these wrecks are well over 100 years old.  The variety of wrecks to be explored range from wooden schooners to steel freighters.  If you would like to learn more about the wrecks in the area please visit http://thunderbay.noaa.gov/shipwrecks/welcome.html

Nervous about sending your son underwater for the first time.  Have no fear, all training dives are conducted at camp in the waters of Torch Lake.  All dives are conducted with a maximum 1:5 staff to camper ratio  The instructor and at least one counselor, also a certified diver, are on every dive ensuring the safest possible environment.  We do our best to work with each student at their pace, allowing for some makeup dives if necessary.  Diving is challanging, but it is also meant to be fun.  We take small steps, building on each skill learned all while working through individual and team challenges.  Tackling these challenges are all part of the growth into a safe and responsible diver.  Once completed with training your son will be a certified PADI diver, a certification they keep for life.  The trip is their chance to explore the underwater world.  They will have earned their certification prior to the boat dives and will have the chance to experience the freedom of planing their own dive with their buddy.  As the instructor, Mike will be close by to assist, but as certified divers they get to take the reins.  These will be the first of many diving adventures.
