Director, YMCA Camp Arbutus Hayo-Went-Ha
2019 will be Amanda Macaluso’s 21st year as Camp Director and 27th year on staff at YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camps. She has also served as a counselor, waterfront director and program director since 1993. During the winter she plans the intricate details of every trip, recruits campers and staff and oversees the year round programming at the Girls Camp site. Professionally, Amanda is an active member of the American Camp Association and the YMCA Michigan Camps Network. Personally, she is a member of the American Camp Association and the Michigan YMCA Directors network. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, Joe, and their two daughters.

David joined Hayo-Went-Ha Camps in 2008 after 5 years as the Assistant Outdoor Education Director at Northern Illinois University’s Lorado Taft Field Campus. Prior to journeying to Illinois, David worked as an OE Program Director at YMCA Camp Thunderbird in South Carolina and as an OE Instructor at YMCA Camp Pendalouan in Montague, MI. David is often visited during camp dinners by his wife, Jessica, son David and daughter Abigayle.
Director of Finances
Erin Steffen joined the full-time staff of the State YMCA of Michigan on January 5, 2017 as the new Director of Finances. Erin is based at the
Torch Lake site (headquarters of the State YMCA of Michigan) and comes to us with strong banking and finance background with Wells Fargo
Bank and Horizon Community Credit Union (Green Bay, Wisconsin). She has an impressive camp pedigree: her father Bruce Otte was a camper
and counselor for many years in the 1960’s and 70’s and her grandmother is none other than long time camp nurse and HWH Hall of Fame member,
Grace Otte. Erin lives in Gaylord with her husband Tim, son Caleb, and daughter Grace.

Director of Development and Alumni Relations
Jim comes from a Camp family. His dad was a camper from 1936 to 1942. Jim was a camper and counselor from 1966 to 1980. His daughters were campers and staff at AHWH and his sons were campers at HWH. Grandson Garrett, as a 2015 Ranger, will start the 4th generation (with 5 other grandsons waiting eagerly in the wings). Before filling the new position of Director of Development and Alumni Relations in 2014, Jim was an active camp volunteer, chairing the Boys Camp Program Committee, co-chairing the HWH 100th Anniversary Celebration, co-chairing the Second Century of Camping Capital Campaign, serving as a member and Secretary of the Board of the State YMCA of Michigan and serving as a member and Vice President of the Camp Advisory Board. Jim connects with alumni, fundraises, writes Whispering Pines, writes grants, plays the banjo and guitar at campfires and sends out updates on happenings at camp and alumni events. In the 34 years between camp gigs, Jim spent 10 years as a squash pro in the Detroit area and 24 years as an attorney in private practice. Jim and his wife Louise (a former Camp Advisory Board President) live in Alden.\
